Born and raised in Darmstadt, Germany, Julian discovered his passion for film and architecture at an early age. After completing various internships in the fields of film and photography in Munich, he studied design at the LIBERA UNIVERSITA DI BOLZANO in Italy and at the FILMACADEMY BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG, including a scholarship for a masterclass workshop at UCLA, USA.
The award winning drama COLOR OF THE OCEAN (2010) of director Maggie Peren marked his feature film debut, earning him the FÖRDERPREIS DEUTSCHER FILM for outstanding artistic achievement.
Since then, Julian designed several, visually unique and critical acclaimed feature films such as Stefan Schaller’s 5 YEARS, which won a number of awards. His filmography includes Joachim Masanneks’s V8-DU WILLST DER BESTE SEIN (2012), Johannes Naber’s DAS KALTE HERZ (2015) and the comic adaptation of PAPA MOLL (2016), directed by Manuel Flurin Hendry.
Having a strong interest in sci-fi and fantasy, Julian collaborated with Lennart Ruff on the sci-fi drama TITAN-EVOLVE OR DIE, and designed Tim Fehlbaum’s TIDES (Executive Producer Roland Emmerich), earning him the 2021 GERMAN FILM AWARD for Best Production Design and the IMAGING THE FUTURE for Best Production Design at NEUCHÂTEL INT. FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL. He also worked on Philip Koch’s apocalyptic series TRIBES OF EUROPA for NETFLIX, and has currently wrapped F. Schätzing’s THE SWARM, by GAME OF THRONES Executive Producer Frank Doelger.
